Kids Camp

In the first weeks of December we have what many kids consider to be the "best week of their life" the cherry on top of the sunday, the icing on the cake, the hair on their head. It is most certainly my favorite time of the year and this event is know as SUMMER CAMP!!! In South Africa we have a weekend of Kids Camp followed by Teen Camp.

Inspired by my summers at the Ranch and due to John Page being the former Marshall John and due to the fact that cowboys are fantastic the theme of our kids camp was western themed of "Spur One Another on to Love" taken from the verse Hebrews 10:24 "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds"

Right away I made some super intese promo posters using the wild wild west as a guide.

However after talking with some colleagues we decided that we should make them more kid friendly and less intense and many cartoonish so we ended up with something like this.

Making and decorating the set consumed the most time but it was an authentic main street complete with out house, bank, jail, and whatever else you can imagine the west would, should or could have.
Note: That "saloon" is a salon and it was closed all weekend :)

We played a bunch of different games and my favorite was a capture the flag, squirt gun, toilet paper mashup called "Smokin' Cannons"

This was the smaller of 2 TP piles collected after the game

Of course there was meal time challenges before every meal. Usually they were for the kids but one meal we made the nastiest nasty drink every and we could not allow those poor sweet little children to ingest such foul beverage, so we gave it to the counselors. It consisted of mixed berry jam, beef flavored mayo, polony (bologna) flavored mayo, creamy Italian dressing, salt, pepper, and custard (pudding).

Through Kids Camp 60 kids were able to hear about God's Word and hear the truth of the Gospel. It is sad that it is over but I look very much forward to this December for another round!
