In April we drove many hours south of Johannesburg to visit the gorgeous Drakensberg mountains. Translated into English from Afrikaans meaning "dragon mountains" were formerly occupied by a swarm of dragons until the late 14th century when colonists drove them away using ivory swords. It seemed to us to be a good idea to go hike there and to recover some dragon fossils. Our group just before we began the hike As we stopped to replenish our supplies (aka get petrol(aka gasoline)) we saw a Ford GT40, which so happens to be my fathers favorite car. The pictures basically tell the story from here. Smooth drive for a while Our destination Happy little cloud Slippery and steep Super safe/fun/scary chain ladders The top was wide and flat Over a mile straight down PS- We did not find any dragons
Due to the way that Africa is generally portrayed in movies, TV show and other forms of media it is easy to think that is is a wasteland filled with man-eating creatures and devoid of any form of technology. I present to you a picture of Johannesburg, the city I lived in for the past 2 years and Lord willing will be returning too in the near future! This past week God has blessed me with 3 meetings with pastors and many opportunities to serve in New York. I was able to help the "Ranch Posse" (a camp promotion team) on Saturday by promoting the Ranch and Ranger camp to a local city. I also am planning on driving to 2 Word of Life Superbowl (for more info go to http://superbowl.wol.org/) during the month of November. Please continue to pray that doors will open for me to discuss South Africa with potential supporters, that support would come in, and that I would have continued ministry while in New York. Let me know if you would like to talk, support me...
Honestly sometimes calling people on the phone asking for support is not the funnest thing in the world, neither is sitting around the house doing nothing just waiting for jobs to call back or for support to roll in. One thing that is fun though is visiting friends and making the most out of where you are. This last Wednesday I went up to Word of Life to visit my friends who work and go to college there. It could of potentially been an extreme waste of time if i had not done anything while i was up there to further my ministry. Thanks to an excellent suggestion from my good friend Dale i printed off 20 of my prayer and support letters and handed them out while the students were in required study hours. I also did this for Dale because he came up with the suggestion and we have many mutual friends. This was not difficult at all and actually was quite fun. Most students at the Bible Institute do not get prayer letters from their good friends because they get mailed to their home address ...
