Zimbabwe

This past week I had the privilege of going to ZImbabwe for a missions trip. There is a particular church in Zimbabwe that did not have a building to meet in. So a group of people from Sandton Bible Church and Word of Life went up on Tuesday in order to put up a large tent where the people could meet. There was also a second group that left Thursday in order to put on a drama.

Warp Speed
I was part of the group that left on Thursday in order to preform the drama "Born Again to a Living Hope"

It is about 16 hours to the capital city of Harare where we were headed. On the first day we traveled for 10 hours total in the car. And we also waited an additional 5 hours waiting to cross the border. The reason it too so long to cross the border was because our man Charles was going to help us get across the border with ease. However he seemed to think that it was his job to make it more difficult for us.

About an hour after we crossed the border we stopped for the night at a pretty nice motel called "The Lion and Elephant." It had a large variety of plant life and after taking many pictures we played a few intense rounds of hide-n-seek before eating dinner and going to bed.

We got up bright and early the next morning and drove the final 6 hours to Harare. Zimbabwe is quite different from South Africa and the USA. Their main road is one lane going each way and it is filled with potholes and there is a lot of trash on the sides. Most of the traffic is from trucks that are headed to the far North in Africa with shipments. We also saw many cows running free on the road.

Once we arrived at our destination we unpacked and met some people from the church. The first team had just finished putting up the tent and we enjoyed eating some Wopani worms.

My friend Muzi and I were able to lead a man to the Lord, his name is Bernard. Bernard came to the church because he was curious about the large white tent. We pray that the tent will draw a lot of positive attention.

The rest of the weekend was focused on the Born Again drama. We had a performance on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. We know of at least 3 people that accepted Christ as their Savior after seeing the drama. Many seeds were planted as well.

One thing that is similar between most of South Africa and Zimbabwe is that there is not usually a program for the youth of the Church. They are just stuck in a phase in-between Sunday School and being an adult. After seeing the drama the church is now excited to be able to get involved with something similar involving the youth of Zimbabwe. Please pray for Calvary Baptist Church of Chitungwiza as they plan on getting more involved with the youth of Zimbabwe.

The trip back home was mostly uneventful and after 3 days rest we are off again to the city of Durban on the east coast of South Africa. We will be holding a SMASH camp there. Please keep us in your prayers and expect and update when we return!

ps. Sorry for the lack of photos other than the ones from the Lion and Elephant, we were pretty busy and my battery also died. Thanks to Timea for the other photos!
